HIke in Gran Canaria - guided hikes in Gran Canaria
Hiking in Gran Canaria is something that all visitors of Gran canaria should experience
Join us, and explore some of the 1200 km of hiking trails covering the island, trails that were once were carved from the rocky mountain sides and used by the islands aborigines many, many years ago.
In a dramatic volcanic landscape, high above the clouds, the pine forested mountain slopes take us down to lush valleys and meadows. We will walk past terraces, where farmers tend to their crops, and then on down through picturesque mountain villages, where locals still live according to ancient traditions, plowing their terraces with oxen and wooden plows.
Hiking in Gran Canaria is still relatively unknown and therefore un-spoilt, giving us the advantage that during our walks we rarely come across anyone else walking the same trails.
During the trek, our experienced and knowledgeable guides will explain to you all about the nature and the exciting culture and history of Gran Canaria, much of which you won't find in your guidebooks.
We offer walks of varying degrees, which make them suitable for both experienced hikers and beginners alike.
We want all of our hikers to feel comfortable and not worry that they are slowing down the group, or equally feel frustrated because they are not challenged enough. Therefore, we always hike with a minimum of two guides, sometimes three, which ensures us that everyone gets the most out of their day. Those who wish challenge themselves to walk a little further and faster will be able to, and those who want to enjoy a more leisurely pace, over a shorter distance are catered for as well.
After a few hours of hiking, we like to rest in a peaceful location above the clouds, where we relax and enjoy a packed lunch and the heavenly view of Gran Canaria and the neighboring islands.
We can often hike in shorts and a T-shirt ... but, keep in mind that the temperature varies a lot in the mountains of Gran Canaria, (from November-April between about +4 to +25 degrees) so it is important to bring good clothes suitable for outdoor activities.
Bring a backpack, wind and rainproof outerwear, warm sweater ( fleece).
It is usually smart to dress in several thin layers, and to always have a dry change with you.
You have to were comfortable hiking or sports shoes with a well patterned sole that are adequate for hiking.
