Pilancones, pajonales
HIKING ON THE CENTRAL PART OF THE ISLAND.
Pilancones and Pajonales are two nature reserves that stretch from the center of the island, down to the south and west of Gran Canaria Protected by high volcanic ridges from the humid winds of the northeast trade wind, some of the most beautiful trails on the island are located up here.
In the valleys are large water reservoirs that supply the villages up here with water.
No matter which hiking trail we choose, it is very beautiful hiking, in a wild and exciting nature up through Gran Canaria's pine forests. The trails take us up to spectacular volcanic ridges with miles of views in all directions.
If we are lucky, we will see the extremely rare Blue Finch (Fringilla polatzeki) which only lives in Gran Canaria and which breeds in these areas.
